L- R: The Onibeju of Ibeju, Oba Wasiu Olasunkanmi Razaq Oguntolu 1, the Oba-elect of Imedu, Prince Ibrahim Adebowale Saliu and the Onise of Ise Land, Oba AbdulGaniyu Adebowale Adegbesan
Waliu Oguntolu, the onibeju of Ibeju; AbdulGaniyu Adegbesan, the onise of Ise Land; and Mubashiru Sangodeyi, the baale of Imedu; say there is no dispute over the obaship stool of Imedu Town.
Speaking in separate interviews, the trio said Ibrahim Saliu was duly and peacefully selected as the oba-elect of Imedu.
They added that the selection process was unanimously supported by the community and approved by the Ibeju-Lekki chieftaincy committee after three months of due diligence.
Oguntolu explained that the selection process was meticulous, with “the oba-elect visiting various palaces in Ibeju-Lekki for appraisal”.

He said all obas visited, including Adegbesan, who is the consenting authority for Imedu, gave Saliu a clean bill of health.
Oguntolu said Adeleke Ismaila, the oba of Lepia, initially supported Saliu but later objected, “mistakenly claiming” authority over Imedu.
Oguntolu urged the Lagos state government to grant Saliu the staff of office promptly, warning the oba of Lepia against actions that could disrupt peace in Imedu.

Adegbesan also corroborated Oguntolu’s statement, noting that by convention, Sangodeyi should be the oba of Imedu but has ceded the position to Saliu due to health reasons.
Sangodeyi, who has been the baale of Imedu for over 40 years, dismissed reports of a dispute and described those spreading “rumours as troublemakers without a stake in the royal stool”.
He described claims by Ismaila and a serving police officer, Aliu Olumade, as baseless, adding that Imedu remains peaceful and united in its support for Saliu.
