‘Lai is at it again’ — reactions to comment on NTA competing with CNN

Twitter is currently abuzz over a $500 million loan request which the ministry of information under Lai Mohammed is seeking.

When he appeared before the senate committee on local and foreign loans on Monday, the minister had reportedly said if the loan is approved, the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) would compete favourably with Cable News Network (CNN).

The $500 million is part of the $30 billion loan President Muhammadu Buhari is asking the national assembly to approve.

Mohammed’s comment has attracted different reactions. Below are some tweets:

“Please we don’t want NTA to compete with CNN now. The private media houses should do the competition. $500m loan will grow wing and disappear into people’s bank account. And Nigeria will end up using her lean resources to investigate and prosecute those that will loot the money,” Mazi Chux tweeted.

I totally agree with Lai Mohammed that NTA would compete with CNN .Is it not the same Lai Mohammed that said we would fight Israel ? 😂

Trying to think of a more wasteful use of a half-billion dollar loan i.e. $500,000,000 (do you know the 'is equal to' of this huge sum?) that will have to be paid back, than throwing it into the NTA.

In all honesty Lai Mohammed should be realistic when making statements.
NTA compete with CNN indeed .

Most public offices and firms don't even tune to NTA most especially banks.

I also think it's possible to count the number of houses that tune to NTA these days.

I agreed with Uncle Lai Mohammed that NTA needs overhauling and total reorientation.

The question is why do we have NTA is all 36 states? Total waste of money.

Use the Aljazeera model, One main studio in Abuja and use correspondents in all 36 states

Fun fact: @CNN is not owned or funded by the US govt. No point throwing borrowed funds drown the drain. Use the funds to generate power and stimulate the economy. Ethiopia is building a dam on the Nile the reservoir of which is the size of London. Compete with Ethiopia!

Na lie oohh. This loan should not be granted. NTA will never change their partisan patronage to politicians who are in power because of government direct involvement. This has made continuity a problem @NTA. This idea currently will be abandoned by the next administration 100%.
