Lai says Buhari’s win is victory for ordinary Nigerians

Lai Mohammed, minister of information, says the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari at the polls is for “ordinary” Nigerians.

Mohammed said this on Thursday in Abuja when the ministry held an event in his honour.

The ministry congratulated Mohammed on the victory he and the All Progressives Congress (APC) recorded during Saturday’s polls in Kwara state.

Senate President Bukola Saraki whose family has held sway in the politics of the state lost his reelection bid at the polls.

Speaking at the event, the minister said the credit “for the liberation of Kwara goes to the good people of state.”

Mohammed said he was confident that Buhari would emerge victorious.

“A simple slogan, ‘O To Ge’ (enough is enough), captured the determination of the people to vote out those who have held them down for decades. And that is precisely what they did,” Mohammed said.

“Permit me to also thank all Nigerians, most sincerely, for re-electing President Muhammadu Buhari.

“I must say that I have no doubt at all that Nigerians will re-elect the President. I said that over and over again before the election.

“Overall, this government is doing more with less and is restoring  decency and integrity to governance. Like the New York Times said, the  re-election of President Buhari is a referendum on honesty. There is no better way to put it.

“Last weekend’s election is a direct contest between ordinary Nigerians and the elites, most of whom are rent seekers. Of course, the ordinary Nigerians have won.”

Grace Gekpe, permanent secretary of ministry, while congratulating Mohammed said the minister would record “greater” victory at the governorship polls.

“Today we are here this morning on behalf of the entire staff of the ministry of information and culture to congratulate you and celebrate with you on the victory you obtained in Kwara state,” Gekpe said.
