Lam Adesina’s loyalists reunite in Ibadan

Loyalists of Lam Adesina, the late former governor of Oyo, have reunited in Ibadan, the state capital.

An unresolved leadership tussle in the build-up to the 2019 general election had divided members of the group across political factions.

The loyalists, popularly called Lamist group, had converged on Lam Adesina parliamentary building, Ibadan, on Tuesday, to resolve their differences and work together as a political family.

In a communique read by Fatai Akinsanmi, former caretaker chairman of Egbeda LGA, the group vowed to work together in capturing the state for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023.

Akinsanmi said the meeting was part of the group’s plan to enhance better progressive politics and good governance as exemplified by successive governments in the state.

“The Lamist group is the pivotal platform of modern progressive politics in Oyo State. The sustenance of previous progressive governments’ achievements must not be allowed to suffer any further setback,” he said.

“Consequently, it is considered imperative that Lam Adesina political Associates should be united. It is therefore agreed that all political followers of Alhaji Lam Adesina should as a matter of utmost priority be consolidated under this platform as one political entity.

“That Lamist is one single political movement under the progressive platform in Oyo State, therefore necessary and reasonable for all those who profess good progressive politics to come together as one big indivisible political family.

“That internal wrangling and animosity between and amongst members of this political family MUST be timely resolved. The consolidation and total unification of the great Lam’s followers must commence without further delay.

“That everyone should return to their various constituencies to start indept mobilisation of more active members for our great party (APC) for future electoral successes.

“That this group wholeheartedly commend the entire leadership of the party (APC) from the local to the National level for their effective and efficient administration and we advise that everything be done to avert any future setback to progressive tenet.”

Also at the meeting were former members of the state house of assembly. This includes Kehinde Subair, ex-majority leader of the state house of assembly; Adelowo Emmanuel, Fatai Salam, Akin Alli, Ramota Okemakinde and Hamzat Ogunsola.

Other were Mufutau Olayiwola Salau, former commissioner for finance; Wahab Lanase, former chairman of Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS); Femi Abiola and Kehinde Balogun.
