Lamentation as fuel rises to N350 in Jigawa

Motorists in Hadejia in Jigawa state have expressed concern over the lingering fuel scarcity in the country, as most of the filling stations had run out of stock of the products.

Checks by NAN on Tuesday showed that a litre of petrol sold between N300 and N350 at the black market outlets.

Some of the available servicing stations being run by independent marketers were dispensing petrol at N220 per litre.

Ahmed Yusufu, a commercial bus operator, described the situation as “pathetic”, adding that the scarcity had exposed motorists to difficulties.

Another motorist, Mahmud Ali, noted that vehicle owners had parked their vehicles and resorted to trekking as they could not afford exorbitant fuel prices.

Ali called on the federal government to adopt practical measures to ensure availability of petroleum products in the country.

Ibrahim, a petrol marketer, attributed the situation to sharp decrease in the supply of petroleum products in the country.

He said the high cost of transporting fuel was responsible for the hikes in pump price.
