LASTMA asks owners of impounded vehicles not to panic over fire outbreak

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has asked those whose vehicles were impounded over traffic offences not to get worried over the fire outbreak at its Oshodi yard.

Some vehicles were razed but no life was lost in the incident which occurred on Friday evening.

In a statement on Saturday, Olumide Filade, assistant director of LASTMA public affairs, quoted Olajide Oduyoye, the agency’s general manager, as saying the fire outbreak started at the abandoned vehicle yard and not on LASTMA property.

Oduyoye said the cause of the fire is still unknown, adding that “seven dead beat vehicles that had been abandoned and already in preparedness for disposal for years by crushing or other means got burnt”.

He said the Lagos State Fire Service responded promptly by putting out the fire to mitigate further spread.

Oduyoye assured the public that LASTMA will continue to be responsible and responsive to maintaining the free flow of traffic in the state.
