The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) says its traffic management solution (TMS) devices will enforce disciplinary measures against offenders.
In a tweet on Monday, Jubril Gawat, senior special assistant (SSA) to the governor of Lagos on new media, said the devices would reduce issues of “LASTMA vs Lagosians”.
Gawat shared an explainer video showing details of the TMS processes. According to the explainer, after the violation of traffic laws, the device will send the infraction to a secured data server showing the violation date record, vehicle number, location, and time.
Once a violation is recorded, offenders will receive a notification through an SMS, mobile app, website, or a physical ticket which will be printed directly from the devices and placed on the vehicle.
Traffic officers will then check for existing violations on handheld devices and issue mandatory fines for offenders.
Failure to pay due fines will result in the denial of vehicle license and a denial of change of ownership until all outstanding fees are cleared.

In March 2021, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos governor, announced the plan for law enforcement officers in the state to use body cameras.
