The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has warned commercial bus drivers, particularly those driving minibuses, against illegal road parking and route violations.
In a statement on Tuesday, Sola Giwa, the special adviser to the Lagos governor on transportation, directed all ‘Korope’ operators against plying on unauthorised routes in the state.
“Korope” is a Yoruba term used to refer to minibuses.
Giwa directed LASTMA officials to increase their efforts in enforcing rules and regulations to prevent reckless driving and illegal activities that negatively affect the flow of traffic in the state.

He added that all commercial bus operators must restrict their activities to designated bus stops and terminals to facilitate free flow of traffic.
“Illegal parking and flagrant route violations have metamorphosed into a grave menace in Lagos, particularly due to the arbitrary conduct of minibus operators,” Giwa was quoted in the statement issued by Adebayo Taofiq, LASTMA director of public affairs.
“Such transgressions, which impede traffic fluidity and endanger public safety, will no longer be condoned.

“LASTMA has been expressly instructed to enforce absolute compliance with extant traffic laws and to apprehend defaulters accordingly.
“Furthermore, strict adherence to designated routes is imperative for security purposes, as it acts as a deterrent against unscrupulous elements who exploit commercial vehicles, particularly ‘Korope,’ for illicit activities.”
He urged all road users to “fully cooperate” with traffic enforcement authorities by adhering to stipulated road regulations.
