The Lagos State University (LASU) governing council has approved the promotion of over 600 embers of staff – academic and non-academic – in the 2013/2014 exercise.
This was disclosed in the university’s official bulletin obtained by NAN on Tuesday in Lagos.
The bulletin said the governing council made the approval at its 109th statutory meeting, saying 41 of those promoted were academic staff members.
“The council approved the promotion of 20 academic staff from lecturer II to lecturer I, eight from lecturer I to senior lecturer and 13 from assistant lecturer to lecturer II,” it said.

“Three-hundred-and-nine were senior non-academic members, while 296 were at the junior cadre.”
The LASU management congratulated all the newly promoted members of staff and urged them to continue to be more committed to their respective duties.
The issue of ‘No vacancy, No promotion’ was among the core demands of the instituion’s staff unions during the administration of John Obafunwa, the immediate past vice-chancellor of the university.

The promotion issues, among other demands, engendered the crisis that ensued between the university’s workforce and the past administration.
The 2013/2014 promotion was eventually carried out by Obafunwa, but was yet to be approved by the council before the end of his tenure on October 31.

Congratulations to the promoted staffs, but i have a question. If our dear country can be ruled by a man with no certificate, then why is lasu discriminating against waec certificate holders and teacher’s grade 2 certificate holders. I discovered that the highest level of promotion with TCII is level 6. Which is not supposed to be so.
