Lawmakers loyal to Fubara confirm eight commissioner nominees

The factional Rivers state house of assembly led by Victor Jumbo has screened and confirmed eight persons nominated as commissioners by Siminalayi Fubara, the governor.

The screening took place at the temporary legislative chambers located within the government house.

The Jumbo-led three-member legislature is loyal to Fubara.

The commissioner designates are to fill some of the vacancies created by the recent resignation of nine commissioners loyal to Nyesom Wike, the FCT minister.

During the sitting, Jumbo read the correspondence from the governor, requesting the screening and confirmation of the nominees.

The factional speaker expressed the assembly’s commitment towards supporting the governor to provide democracy dividends to Rivers people.

Responding, Sokari Goodboy, the house leader, and Adolphus Timothy, the deputy speaker, unanimously adopted the request.

They both said most of the nominees had previously served the state in various capacities without blemish.

The commissioners designate include Charles Bekee, a former chairman of the Rivers/Bayelsa branch of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria; Collins Onunwo, former caretaker committee chairman of Obio/Akpor LGA; and Peter Medee, former commissioner for energy.

Others are Solomon Eke, a former caretaker committee chairman of Obio/Akpor LGA; Elloka Amadi, former commissioner for works; Tambari Sydney-Gbara, ex-publicity secretary of the PDP in the state; Basoene Benibo; and Ovy Chukwuma.

Last Monday, the factional assembly screened and confirmed Dagogo Iboroma as the commissioner for justice and attorney general of the state.
