Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has called on the federal and Lagos state governments to collaborate in supporting victims and businesses affected by the #EndSARS protest.
This was disclosed in a statement, titled ‘The way forward: Peace, reconciliation, rebuilding’, by Toki Mabogunje (pictured), president of LCCI, on Monday.
The Chamber expressed sympathy with families who lost loved ones during and after the protests and also with investors and businesses who lost valuable assets to arson, looting and destruction of properties.
LCCI described these events as “one of the darkest moments in our recent history” and also empathised with the Lagos state government over the wanton destruction of public properties around the state.

“We wish to appeal that the federal and Lagos state governments should collaborate to provide support (in the form of grants) to all the victims of the unfortunate outcomes of the protest and the subsequent attacks and destruction of properties and assets,” the statement read.
“The families of all those who lost their loved ones should be adequately compensated.
“The federal government should come to the aid of the Lagos state government to rebuild the large number of assets that were destroyed by the hoodlums that hijacked the protest.”

LCCI further urged all citizens that may have suffered from different forms of police brutality and injustice to cooperate with the Lagos state government to bring about restitution on and some form of closure over the #EndSARS protest incidents.
