Lekan Fatodu, the immediate past senior special assistant to Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has been nominated as an executive member in the governor’s cabinet.
The nomination of Fatodu, alongside 38 names consisting of 30% women, youths, technocrats and politicians, was sent to the state assembly on Friday.
The former senior special assistant holds a bachelor of science degree in mass communication from the University of Lagos and a master’s degree in diplomatic studies from the University of Westminster, London.
Fatodu, an astute politician from Odi-Olowo LCDA, Mushin constituency 1, is a seasoned professional with a wealth of experience in international development, strategic communication, community engagement and public service.

As a PRINCE2-certified project management practitioner, Fatodu has over 18 years of expertise in international development and communications, and diplomacy.
He left an indelible mark in various roles, including being the former publisher of Checkout Magazine, a publication focused on business and development, and serving as the lead consultant at Leeman Communication, a firm which specialises in digital solutions and strategic communications.
Fatodu’s visionary leadership extends to the successful entrepreneurship forum, the Africa Shapers Initiative, which provides a dynamic platform for established and aspiring entrepreneurs across the continent to exchange innovative ideas.

In 2017, Fatodu convened the 1st African roundtable on business and sustainable development at the British house of parliament, London, which brought together influential stakeholders in international development, including John Howel, former British prime minister’s envoy on trade to Nigeria, and Iain Stewart, the private parliamentary secretary on international trade, to foster better outcomes from collective actions.
His exceptional achievements have earned him numerous accolades, including the most outstanding entrepreneur award by Strides Media UK in 2011, and recognition for his outstanding achievements and exemplary public endeavours by the University of Lagos Alumni Association, Lagos chapter.
As a commissioner nominee, Fatodu is well-positioned to drive the growth and prosperity of Lagos through his understanding of sustainable development goals (SDGs) and dedication to driving positive change.
