DiCaprio’s ‘The Revenant’ gets 12 Oscar nominations

The Annual Academy Award commonly known as the Oscars takes place annually to celebrate the best movies of the year, and nominations for the 88th edition were announced on Thursday, January 14 with 2015 movie The Revenant receiving the most nominations.

The event will be held on Sunday, February 28, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Centre, and will be broadcast in 225 countries across the world.

Chris Rock, African-American actor, will be hosting the event for a second time after hosting the 77th edition in 2005, E!News reported.

The nominations were announced at a press conference held in the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills.

Mad Max: Road to Fury is the movie with the second highest nominations with eight nominations, coming behind The Revenant, which has 12 nominations.

DiCaprio is nominated in the actor of the year category for the movie The Revenant.

Other nominees in the category are: Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), Matt Damon (The Martian), Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs), Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl).

DiCaprio, who began his acting career in 1990, is famous for his roles in Titanic, Wolf of Wall Street, The Great Gatsby amongst others.

He has been nominated previously for his roles in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, The Aviator, Blood Diamond and The Wolf of Wall Street.
