Gbenga Komolafe, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), has urged stakeholders to unite to end corruption in the oil and gas sector.
Komolafe spoke on Monday in Abuja during a workshop organised by the commission to mark the international anti-corruption day themed “United Against Corruption: Building Integrity for a Sustainable Future”.
Speaking at the event, Komolafe described corruption as a major threat to Nigeria’s growth, noting it deprives citizens of essential services, discourages investments, and erodes trust in public institutions.
He stressed the crucial role of leadership in tackling corruption, calling on stakeholders, government agencies, industry operators, and civil society to unite in the fight against the menace.

“Corruption deprives citizens of essential services, discourages investments, and erodes trust in public institutions, thus the importance of safeguarding the upstream petroleum industry,” Komolafe said.
“We must collectively ensure that Nigeria’s oil and gas resources become a blessing for all, not a privilege for a few. I urge Nigerians to embrace transparency as a personal and collective creed.”
The NUPRC boss outlined several measures introduced by the commission to strengthen transparency and governance, including the oil and gas industry service permit (OGISP) portal, competitive bidding for petroleum licences, and the host-comply platform.

He also commended the anti-corruption and transparency unit (ACTU) of the commission for its proactive role in fostering integrity through awareness campaigns, system reviews, and whistleblowing mechanisms.
According to Komolafe, the efforts have bolstered investor confidence and boosted revenue inflows into the federation account.
During the event, the NUPRC CEO recognised some outstanding staff members with integrity awards for their commitment to integrity.
