Some suspected hoodlums have reportedly torched the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) office in Ibiatuk, Ibiono Ibom LGA of the state.
Local government elections are currently ongoing across the 31 LGAs of the state.
Confirming the incident on Saturday, Timfon John, the police spokesperson in the state, said no life was lost, adding that electoral materials were not affected.
John noted that the security operatives are working to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.

She assured Nigerians that the election is going on smoothly.
“Some hoodlums partly torched the electoral office in Ibiono Ibom LGA, but the election materials remain in tact, no person was injured,” John told TheCable.
“Security operatives are going after the hoodlums, the command is doing more of security enforcement in all ASIEC offices, the truth is that. The election is going on peacefully, any other development will be communicated.”

On October 3, political parties participating in the LG elections signed a peace accord to ensure that there is no violence throughout the exercise in the state.
Aniedi Ikoiwak, chairman of AKISIEC, reiterated the commission’s readiness to conduct a free, fair and all-inclusive election in the state.
He warned perpetrators of violence to desist as anyone found wanting would be arrested and prosecuted.
