LGA polls: Kogi APC reserves vice-chairperson slots for women

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi state has reserved the position of LGA vice-chairperson for women ahead of the October election.

The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) has scheduled October 19 for the conduct of elections in the 21 LGAs in the state.

TheCable understands that the APC in the state has also resolved to reserve 40 percent of its councillorship tickets for female candidates.

Speaking at the APC stakeholders’ meeting on Monday, Usman Ododo, governor of Kogi, commended the party for keeping the LGA vice-chairperson tickets for women.

Ododo said his administration is consolidating on the achievements of Yahaya Bello, the former governor of the state, regarding the 35 percent affirmative action.

In a statement released by Ismaila Isah, his media aide, the Kogi governor was quoted as having promised that the state will continue to give more opportunities to women.

Ododo assured residents of the state that the LGA elections will be “peaceful, free, and fair”.

The Kogi governor said the judgment of the supreme court on the financial autonomy of the LGA is a relief to the state government.
