Uganda coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic, has described his team as “lions” after they clipped the wings of the Super Eagles in an international friendly match on Wednesday.
Farouk Miya’s goal in the 81st minute condemned Nigeria to a 1-0 loss in front of their fans at the Akwa Ibom Stadium, Uyo.
It was the Cranes of Uganda fourth win over Nigeria in seven meetings and who can blame Micho for crowing after this latest victory?
“Credit to my players after many of them could not come for this match. They are lions who fought against the Super Eagles and got a result,” he said.

“We prepared for all the details of this game and that was why we could limit the Eagles to only two chances all through the match.
“We defended by playing football. We would have been beaten if we had only sat back in our defence.”
Micho, however, regrets spoiling the party for Super Eagles’ centurion Vincent Enyeama.

“It’s sad we spoiled his party with the victory on a day he is celebrating his 100 caps for the side,” he said.
“I congratulate him on his 100 caps for the Eagles as well as wish him well in his future endeavours. I think both sides have a great future and gave a good account of themselves in the hotly contested encounter.
“However, I give all the credits for the hard-fought win to the players; they’re really lions for beating the Nigerians.
“I’m happy with the great win as it’ll further boost the players’ confidence in the next assignments.”
