Liverpool extend EPL lead, Leicester defeat Man City

Liverpool increased their lead at the top of the English Premiership table with an emphatic 4-0 win over Newcastle United at Anfield. The Merseyside club’s lead increased to six points following Man City’s lacklustre 1-2 loss at Leicester City.

Jurgen Klopp’s men took the lead through Dejan Lovren’s half volley on 11 minutes when a corner kick was half-cleared into his path. The crowd waited until early second half for the second goal, Mohamed Salah earning a soft penalty before dispatching his kick.

Xherdan Shaqiri slotted in the third, while midfielder, Fabinho rounded up the win with a simple header. The win put them on them on 51 points and in the lead to win a first EPL title since 1990.

Tottenham, however, moved to within six points of the leaders with an emphatic 5-0 win over Bournemouth at Wembley to replace Manchester City in second.

This win follows a 6-2 win at Everton on Sunday. South Korean forward, Heung-Min Son scored twice, while further goals from Harry Kane, Lucas Moura and Christian Eriksen obliterated Eddie Howe’s side.

While Manchester United were continuing their renaissance under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a 3-1 win over Huddersfield thanks to a Pogba brace, their ‘noisy neighbour’ and league champions, Manchester City were lost 1-2 to Leicester City at the King Power stadium.

The Citizens went ahead through Bernardo Silva on 14 minutes but Marc Albrighton equalized five minutes later.
