Lokpobiri directs NMDPRA to probe Jigawa tanker explosion

Heineken Lokpobiri, minister of state, petroleum resources (oil), has directed the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to investigate the circumstances surrounding the petrol tanker explosion that occurred in Jigawa.

In a statement on Wednesday, Lokpobiri said the incident underscores the urgency of ongoing collaborations with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to enhance safety standards.

“Only a few days ago, I emphasized the importance of safety in petroleum product transportation during discussions with the FRSC Corps Marshall,” the minister said.

“This incident underscores the urgency of that collaboration.

Lokpobiri also urged the public to avoid approaching petroleum-laden tankers involved in accidents, adding that the risks are fatal.

The minister called on the petroleum tanker drivers (PTD) and the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) to work closely with the FRSC and NMDPRA to ensure that only certified, licenced drivers are employed to transport petroleum products.
