Ademola Lookman wheels away in celebration after socroing his first-ever UEFA Champions League goal against Shakhtar Donetsk

Ademola Lookman scored one and assisted another as Atalanta defeated Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0 in their UEFA Champions League (UCL) encounter on Wednesday night.

The winger was the star of the night in a match played at the Arena Auf Schalke in Germany, Shakhtar’s temporary UCL home due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Lookman’s impressive performance gave Atalanta their first full points in the UCL after a goalless draw with Arsenal in the opening group match. He was also awarded the man of the match accolade after the encounter.

The 26-year-old provided the cross for the first goal scored by Berat Djimisiti in the 21st minute before firing into the bottom corner to double the lead a minute before the interval.

Raoul Bellanova added more gloss to the scoreline three minutes into the second half, and Lookman was given a deserved rest with a substitution of 60 minutes.

Lookman’s goal was his first-ever in the UCL, joining compatriot Victor Boniface, who achieved a similar feat a day earlier.

He has five goals and two assists in seven matches for Atlanta and the Super Eagles this season.

In other matches, Liverpool strolled past Bologna with a 2-0 win at Anfield thanks to goals by Alexis MacAllister and Mohamed Salah, while Jhon Duran scored the only goal as Aston Villa upset Bayern Munich 1-0 at Villa Park.

The biggest upset of the night was Real Madrid’s 1-0 loss to LOSC Lille in France.

The defeat ended the UCL Champions’ 14-match unbeaten run. It also means the 15-time champions have lost away against French opposition in three consecutive matches.
