The development means Paris is all but sure to be announced as the host city for the 2024 Games.
Paris and Los Angeles were the only cities left in the race for 2024 after Budapest, Hamburg and Rome withdrew.
Speaking on LA’s decision to opt for 2028, Thomas Bach, IOC president said, “We are very confident that we can reach a tripartite agreement under the leadership of the IOC with LA and Paris in August, creating a win-win-win situation for all three partners.

“This agreement will be put forward to the IOC session in Lima in September for ratification.”
The forthcoming hosting duties will see both Los Angeles and Paris become three-time hosts.
Los Angeles hosted the games in 1932 and 1984, with Paris doing so in 1900 and 1924.
