Low-pressure tyre disrupts Air Peace flights to Gambia, Senegal

Air Peace, a Nigerian airline, says its aircraft had a low-pressure tyre in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, disrupting flights bound for Gambia and Senegal.

In a statement signed by management on Thursday, the airline said the crew immediately grounded the aircraft for safety reasons, leading to flight delays across its network.

“This is to notify our esteemed passengers across our network that the aircraft operating Lagos-Abidjan-Banjul-Dakar flights on May 29, 2024, had a low-pressure tyre on ground Abidjan, and as such has disrupted the upward flights to Banjul and Dakar,” Air Peace said.

“The crew observed this low-pressure tyre on ground Abidjan and had to ground the aircraft immediately for safety reasons. This has led to flight delays across our network.”

Air Peace expressed empathy for all passengers affected by the situation, adding that another aircraft has been dispatched to Abidjan to lift the passengers.

The airline urged the public to disregard any information or online content that contradicts Air Peace’s reason for the flight disruption.

“We have seen a video in which the originator alleged emergency landing and lack of passenger care. This is grossly false and misleading,” Air Peace said.

“Food and hotel accommodation were provided for the Banjul and Dakar passengers.

“It was difficult securing hotel accommodation early for the Abidjan passengers because of the transit time, but we eventually did.”

Air Peace said it regrets the inconveniences caused by the unforeseen situation, adding that every action it takes is always in the interest of passenger safety.
