The candidates of the Labour Party (LP) for the Imo house of assembly poll have rejected the results of the March 18 election, alleging that it was rigged to favour the All Progressives Congress (APC).
There are 27 seats in the Imo state house of assembly and elections were held for 26 seats.
The members-elect, all APC members, have been issued certificates of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
A supplementary poll is billed to hold on April 15 for the Ahiazu-Mbaise state constituency.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, the 27 candidates of the LP alleged that the state assembly polls were rigged.
Precious Nwadike, candidate for Orlu south state constituency, said the people of the state voted massively for the LP and called for the REC to be sacked and investigated over the outcome of the poll.
“We, the LP candidates in Imo state representing the 27 LGA, having fully and objectively x-rayed in detail all the issues and factors that played out before, during and after the 2023 general elections, disagree in strong terms, the declaration of 26 APC candidates winners of the March 18 house of assembly election,” he said.

“The fact that elections were never held in many wards and local government areas in Imo state, particularly at places where insecurity reign was evident.”
Nwadike also alleged that LP agents were harassed, and intimidated and were not allowed access to the collation centres.
