LP senator: N250m was allocated for projects in my constituency | I didn’t get N500m

Tony Nwoye, senator representing Anambra north, says he got an allocation of N250 million for intervention projects in his constituency.

BACKGROUND

There was a rowdy session in the senate on Tuesday when Jarigbe Jarigbe, a lawmaker from Cross River, claimed that some “senior senators” got N500 million in the 2024 budget for constituency projects.

Jarigbe spoke while contributing to the motion moved by Solomon Adeola, senator representing Ogun west, on the claim of budget padding made by Abdul Ningi, senator representing Bauchi central.

During the weekend, Ningi stirred a controversy when he alleged that the 2024 budget was padded with N3 trillion by the senate.

Ningi said a “huge damage” has been done to the entire country through the budget.

He was suspended on Tuesday by the senate for three months due to the claim.

The national assembly had passed a budget of N28.7 trillion for the 2024 fiscal year.

President Bola Tinubu had proposed N27.5 trillion, but the lawmakers jacked it up by N1.2 trillion.

‘I DIDN’T RECEIVE ANY N500M FOR CONSTITUENCY PROJECT’

Hours after Jarigbe’s comment, an X user in a post tagged and asked the Anambra lawmaker if he also received N500 million.

“@SenatorNwoye my senator I hope you didn’t soil your hands and that of our constituency with Godswill Akpabio’s N500 million?” the X user wrote.

Responding on Wednesday, Nwoye in a post said he was only allocated N250 million for intervention projects in his constituency.

He added that the allocation has not yet been released.

“I didn’t receive any 500 Million naira as a Constituency project for the good people of Anambra North Senatorial District,” Nwoye wrote.
