The London School of Economics (LSE) has appointed Chude Jideonwo, a media personality, as creative-in-residence.
The programme, which kicks off in September, will focus on engagement with Africa through cutting-edge research, teaching and public events.
It is expected to strengthen the institution’s long-term commitment to placing Africa at “the heart of understandings and debates on global issues”.
Jideonwo described his appointment as an affirmation of the hard work and dedication that has gone into his platform.
“This is an incredible honour and it was completely unexpected — as it wasn’t applied for,” he said.
“It’s an affirmation of a decision years ago to focus only on the work and an affirmation of the work that we continue to do.
“I love the LSE campus, and I am heartened by my interactions so far with the institute and I can’t wait to get to work.”
Martha Mwenitete, chair of strategic development and manager of LSE’s Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa, said Jideonwo’s influence is essential in the creative endeavour the institute is about to embark on.
“We are really pleased to have you and we really would like you to influence colleagues to get involved in some of the creative initiatives we’ll be bringing,” she said.
“Our residents program is part of our strategy to connect with platforms and creative sectors across Africa — and we are excited to welcome Chude as our first creative in residence.”
