Lucky Imasuen, ex-Edo deputy governor, withdraws from APC guber primary

Lucky Imasuen, a former deputy governor and one of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship hopefuls in Edo state, has withdrawn from the race to elect the party’s flagbearer.

The Edo APC governorship primary election is scheduled to hold on Saturday (today).

On February 10, Imasuen and 11 other governorship hopefuls were screened and cleared to contest in the party’s primary.

Imasuen’s withdrawal from the race comes less than 24 hours after Osagie Ize-Iyamu, a two-time governorship candidate in the state, withdrew from the contest.

In a letter, Imasuen said he withdrew from the primary election in the interest of unity.

“I have come to the conclusion that since members of our National Working Committee (NWC), in their wisdom, have expressed their preference for zoning the governorship position to Edo Central Senatorial District, it is wise to align with the decision of the party,” the letter reads.

“I am immensely grateful for your unwavering support and belief in me, throughout this journey. Your dedication and passion have been the driving force behind my campaign.

“While this decision was not made lightly, I trust that you will understand, and continue to support our party, as we work together towards our shared goals.”

Imasuen said he would support whoever is elected as the candidate of the party in the primary election.

Imasuen was the deputy governor of the south-south state between 2007 and 2008.
