The presidency says the dismissal of Abdulrasheed Maina, ex-chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, followed due process.
President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered the disengagement of Maina after the report of his reinstatement went viral.
While some welcomed the action and described it as a boost for the anti-graft war, others said it violated the provisions of the civil service rule.
But in a series of tweets on Tuesday, the presidency said Buhari “only directed appropriate authorities to effect the order in compliance with due process”.

“Reports that due process was not followed in the disengagement of Mr. Maina from service are incorrect,” one of the tweets read.
“The President directed the appropriate authorities to effect the disengagement in compliance with due process.
“President Buhari will continue to ensure that due process is followed every step of the way.”
