The Nigerian Twittersphere is currently buzzing over the resignation of Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra and presidential hopeful, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The presidential hopeful’s decision to leave the PDP comes days before the party’s presidential primary is scheduled to hold.
His resignation has since generated reactions from Nigerians on Twitter, making him among trending topics on the platform.
Reno Omokri, a media aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, blamed Obi’s online followers for the former governor’s decision to leave PDP.

“Did I not say it? If PDP had fielded @PeterObi, they would have LOST big time. His online followers made him too toxic in every region except the Southeast. They know themselves. Insulting and threatening. As if only their votes could have made him President!” Omokri wrote.

He also advised Obi’s followers to change their campaign tactics if he moves to a new party.

“Word of advice to @PeterObi’s supporters: When and if he moves to a new party, change your tactics. Don’t carry that your IPOB insult and threaten strategy to his new party, otherwise you will make him toxic there, just as you made him too toxic for the PDP! #TableShaker,” Omokri said.

He wasn't going to win. This is a fierce battle. He was a lovely candidate and bless your hearts for standing by him. I am in full support of young people supporting Peter Obi and I will continue to egg you people on.
Goodluck everyone.

Peter Obi has seen the light that when it comes to buying Delegates, he cant stand some aspirants & if he tries to go that route, it will stain his "uprightness"
For him to win from another party apart from the 2 biggest ones will be a miracle.
Presidential dream over?

I think we should make Peter obi the presidential flag bearer of the Youth party…

If Peter Obi joins Kwankwaso in NNPP, as long as Kwankwaso agrees to be his vice, then they’ve just knocked PDP of the perch for 2023.

I hope this Peter Obi wave is not just a twitter thing. Please let it not end here. Speak to people around you. Educate them on why we need a sound mind like Peter Obi to be our next president.

They intended to disgrace and humiliate Peter Obi at the primaries.
The handwriting was clear enough the moment they handed over Anambra PDP to no less a person than Chris Ubah.
Obi did the honourable thing.

I pray Peter Obi goes to NNPP. It will be a glorious and useful union.
The elections will take a very interesting and positive turn.

Peter Obi said he is leaving because of the gang up against him by the PDP NWC. Instead of you to face PDP, you are in my mentions saying I cried. Is that the solution to your fav's predicament?

Dear Peter Obi supporters, keep the fire burning.
— Comrade Deji Adeyanju (@adeyanjudeji) May 25, 2022
Do you know that Peter Obi wrote his resignation letter himself? He even signed and stamped it himself. He didn't need an assistant to do it for him like other politicians. He is such a humble leader. Go and verify.

Peter Obi lovers and supporters should be happy fulfilled that not everything in life is about dollars. Time will tell for everyone putting dollars above the truth. Hunger will soon start catching delegates by December, 2022.

Atleast If Peter Obi defects, make we kuku know we are in the opposition so that we can respond adequately.

Peter Obi leaving PDP isn't a good thing and it going to be very bad for the Party optics. The narratives around Obi's Presidency idea have been everywhere since his declaration till this very moment. It is really sad that the opposition is about to lose such great mind. Too bad.

It is now clear why Peter Obi made that post this morning telling everyone to get their PVCs. PO is relying on the people to make him president. No Godfathers or dirty politics. If we pull this it will be a breakthrough for Nigeria because he will answer to no one but the people!

Peter Obi’s exit from PDP is a sad development; this NWC obviously can’t handle a fair Presidential primary elections.
An aspirant leaving the party just few days to the election? Terrible signs and optics.
Sad day for PDP, maybe the party is not ready after all.— Somto Onuchukwu (@chosensomto) May 25, 2022

Peter Obi realized his chances in the PDP were close to zero because of the way of the delegates.
He made the right decision.

Peter Obi’s followers will follow him wherever he goes… yes ?
— Alabi (@the_Lawrenz) May 25, 2022
The only thing evident in Peter Obi’s exit from the PDP is that he has kissed his 2023 presidential aspirations goodbye.
He can’t win with a 3rd force…the two mega parties are too grounded to be usurped by a small party.— Forlán (@viqforlan) May 25, 2022
