Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo state, says he volunteered to donate his blood for research purposes on COVID-19.
The governor had contracted the disease, but recovered six days later.
In a tweet on Wednesday, Makinde said as a survivor, his blood would help the study by experts working on post infection protection against COVID-19.
“We have been advocating for local solutions to the COVID-19 pandemic in Oyo State. So, as a COVID-19 survivor, I volunteered to donate my blood to be studied by our experts researching on the “Evaluation of Post Infection Protection Against SARS-COV-2 (COVID-19) in Nigeria,” he wrote.

The governor had claimed that there were local solutions to boost the immune system against coronavirus.
He said while in isolation, Muyideen Olatunji, who is in charge of primary healthcare in Oyo came to him and said: “I am going to send to you this blackseed oil, it boosts immunity so I mixed it with honey and take one teaspoon in the morning and one in the evening. So, there are local solutions to boost immunity. So, our people should not fret. They shouldn’t fret. Just as I have been able to get the virus out of my system, so will it be for majority of our people.”
There are no vaccines yet for COVID-19.
