Malami: I’m not involved in Sanusi’s dethronement

Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the Federation (AGF), says he has no hand in the dethronement and detention of Muhammadu Sanusi.

Sanusi, who was dethroned as emir of Kano, was confined to Awe in Nasarawa state until a federal high court in Abuja ordered his release, paving the way for him to move to Lagos, on Friday.

An aide of the deposed monarch had accused Malami of ordering the detention of the former first-class monarch.

In a statement on Sunday, Umar Gwandu, special assistant on media and public relations to Malami, said the minister will not comment further on the development since it is already in court.

“The issue of who does what over the dethronement saga has been effectively submitted for judicial determination. The matter is consequently subjudice,” he said.

”And I will not comment one way or the other over a matter that is pending before the court.”

Sanusi said his removal was badly done that he could have challenged it in court if he wanted the throne back.

He added that it could be difficult for him, but his removal is not an issue as he has no reason to be sad or depressed.
