Man ‘impersonating Jigawa speaker’ arrested by police

The police command in Jigawa has arrested one Abduljabar Inuwa for allegedly impersonating Haruna Dangyatin, speaker of the state house of assembly.

In a chat with journalists on Friday, Ahmadu Abdullahi, the state’s police commissioner, said the suspect, a resident of Dutse, was arrested on Monday in possession of forged complimentary cards bearing the name and insignia of the speaker.

Abdullahi said 20 additional fake complimentary cards were recovered from the suspect’s residence during a search by police officers.

“The suspect confessed that he has secured financial favours from various council chairmen in the state using the name of the speaker,” Abdullahi said.

“The man who printed the complimentary cards for the suspect was also arrested.”

In a related development, the commissioner said a 25-year-old resident of the Kanti area of Kazaure was arrested for allegedly vandalising electricity cables in the neighbourhood.

“One Abdullahi Isa of the same address complained that he detected the suspect while committing the act, and when he questioned him, the suspect attacked and stabbed him with a knife,” he added.

“Police arrested another 25-year-old man, Yusif Musa of Kafar Yamma area, Babura, suspected of peddling illicit drugs at Babura motor park.

“777 tablets of diazepam and some quantity of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana were recovered from the suspect.”
