Management raises alarm on spread of scabies at IDP camp in Edo

The management of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp at Uhogua, near Benin, Ovia north-east local government area of Edo state, has empahsised on the need to curtail the spread of scabies in the camp.

Solomon Folorunsho, coordinator, International Christian Centre for Missions, now converted to IDP camp, made this appeal in an interview with NAN on Tuesday.

Folorunsho, who lauded NEMA south-south office for donating some cartons of soaps and antiseptics to the camp, however, said the items were not enough for the affected persons.

“We appreciate the donation made by NEMA on Thursday but it is a far cry from the number of affected children here,” he said.

“The staff and the facilities are over-stretched while the condition of affected persons with scabies may get worse if urgent attention is not given to remedy the situation”.

Folorunsho implored Major Eze, NEMA zonal coordinator, to facilitate the deployment of health workers in the camp and called for the support of philanthropists to tackle the problem.

He also called for the support of the government and the public in combating the menace as well as overcoming the health challenges at the camp.
