An unconfirmed number of persons are feared to have been trapped after a five-storey building under construction collapsed at Basden street, Fegge, in Onitsha, Anambra state.
The building was said to have collapsed in the early hours of Sunday while some of the construction workers were on the last floor.
The reason for the collapse was yet to be ascertained at the time of this report as rescue operations continued at the site.
Multiple reports said one person had been rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building.

Tochukwu Ikenga, police spokesperson in Anambra, who confirmed the incident, said operatives have been sent to the site to ascertain the number of casualties.
“Our deputy commissioner of police in charge of operation led operatives to the place, rescue operation is still ongoing, Right now I don’t have any information on the number of casualties,” Ikenga said.
