An unspecified number of people were killed in Biu, one of the largest towns in Borno state, when multiple explosions rocked a military checkpoint on Tuesday.
A source told TheCable that soldiers and members of the civilian JTF, a local vigilante group collaborating with the military to provide security across the north-east, were among the casualties.
Auwalu Ibrahim, a member of the vigilante group, told Reuters that there were children around the checkpoint when the blasts went off.
