March with discipline

YouNow is created for the everyday individual who seeks to gain a deeper understanding of Self, harness gifting, talent and natural abilities in order to achieve their highest potential. These write-ups are designed to help you become more conscious and deliberate in your interactions and day-to-day living

“Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.”

As a people, we’ve become impatient, or put differently; we’ve become interested in a lot of things. If you take a look around, what you’ll notice is that very few people take the time to go all out on a single goal, habit or skill for a definite period of time.

Instead of taking the time out to discover carefully their main drive for pursuing an interest, and immersing themselves in the process of developing that interest for as long as it takes to get to the level of mastery, most people just “scratch the surface,” and chase something novel to them; a new skill, a new diet, even a new book for a few days, weeks or ‘months’ before being interested in something else.

My experience has taught me that few people are interested in putting in the amount of work over an extended period of time to become very good in the areas they’ve ascertained. To a larger extent, very few display the persistence needed to excel.

While it is always good to begin with the end in mind, we should also understand that the path ultimately determines the destination. What happens is we find ourselves getting bored and ‘unmotivated’ to carry on with the process.

Discipline then is the opium for success. Motivation fades, and can be erratic, but discipline means regardless of when the drudgery sets in, we will stick to the process and follow through.

We are approaching the end of the first quarter of the year.

Think long and hard before making decisions and when you do make them, don’t be fueled by the ecstasy that comes with making ‘supposedly’ life changing decisions, instead be fueled by the person you’ll become after undergoing the process to get to where you want to be.

Your destination is merely a reflection of your journey.

Don’t be motivated, be disciplined. Go all out on your goals.
