David Mark, the immediate past president of the senate, has warned that Nigeria could be consumed by Boko Haram if the insurgents are not confronted “headlong”.
In a goodwill message to commemorate this year’s eid- el-fitri, Mark called on all men of good will to rise to the challenge posed by Boko Haram insurgents.
He said the situation was pushing the nation to the extreme.
“There is no hiding place any more. We must face the reality of a war situation. We either confront the monster headlong or get consumed,” the message read.

Mark bemoaned the agonies being unleashed on Nigerians “especially in the northeast region that has led to avoidable deaths, made our people refugees in their fatherland and destroyed property worth millions of naira.”
While calling for cooperation with the military in the war against insurgency, he emphasised the need for persistent prayer for God’s intervention.
He also asked Nigerians to support the government and recommended community policing as a panacea to the menace.

“I am convinced that we can over come our challenges including insecurity if we come together in a honest, sincere and committed manner,” the message read.
“In this circumstances , we have no choice but to come together and confront our problem in a holistic way.”
