Bello Mandiya, chief of staff to Aminu Masari, governor of Katsina, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket for Katsina south.
The primary election started late Wednesday and ended in the early hours of Thursday.
Mandiya won the election by polling 1,469 votes. Faruk Lawal Jobe, his closest rival, scored 1,096 votes.
Other contestants were Nura Khalil who polled 618 votes, Maharazu Tsiga, former director-general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who polled 39 votes and Garba Usman who had six votes.

In Katsina central, Kabir Abdullahi Barkiya won the party’s ticket by scoring 1,466 votes. He defeated Umar Kurfi, the incumbent, who polled 141 votes.
In President Muhammadu Buhari’s senatorial district of Katsina north, Ahmed Babba Kaita, senator-elect won the party’s ticket for 2019.
He polled 2,384 as against Umar Katsayal who did not record any vote.

Kaita is replacing Mustapha Bukar who died in April after a brief illness. He is yet to be sworn in because of the annual recess of the national assembly.
