Bello Matawalle, minister of state for defence, has asked the military to be proactive in its approach to insecurity in the country.
In a statement on Friday, Henshaw Ogubike, director of information and public relations, quoted Matawalle as saying that there has been an increase in banditry in the north-west geopolitical zone.
The former governor of Zamfara said there is need for synergy amongst security agencies, adding that without a stable environment, agriculture would not thrive.
“The safety and well-being of our citizens remain paramount, and it is imperative that decisive action be taken to curb the menace of terrorism and banditry in our communities,” he said.

“Enhanced security in the region will not only safeguard the lives and properties of our people but also improve the quality of farming and irrigation.
“Farmers will be able to cultivate their lands without fear of attacks, thus ensuring food security and economic prosperity for the region.”
The minister said the administration of President Bola Tinubu is committed to the safety of lives and property, while urging communities to work with security agencies to keep their areas safe.
