The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) says the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched an investigation into the Max Air Boeing 737 incident at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA).

Earlier, TheCable reported that the aircraft lost its landing gear tyre during landing, leading to the incident on Tuesday.

Providing an update in a statement on Wednesday, Max Air assured the public that the situation was professionally managed, with all passengers and crew safely evacuated, adding that there were no injuries.

In a statement on Wednesday, Obiageli Orah, director of public affairs and consumer protection at FAAN, said the aircraft carried 53 passengers and six crew members.

“Fortunately, there were no injuries to the passengers or the crew members on board. Emergency services responded promptly, and the incident was managed according to the emergency response plan,” Orah said.

“The aircraft has been towed to Bay 5 for further investigation, which is ongoing by Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) to determine the root cause of the incident.”

The director noted that the runway has been reopened after clearance was completed and normal flight operations have since resumed at the airport.
