MEANWHILE… Aso Rock staff dejected after ‘sycophantic’ meeting with Buhari

When Aso Rock staff got a circular on Wednesday morning directing them to attend an “emergency meeting” with President Muhammadu Buhari, they were thrilled.

Many of them thought it was going to be a heart-to-heart talk, and had planned to discuss burning welfare issues with the president.

Indeed, many of them were glad they would see him closely for the first time in their lives.

They were conveyed to the fore court of the president’s office in Coaster buses.

“You can then imagine our shock when the State House permanent secretary (Jalal Arbi), who led us to the meeting, told the president we only came to welcome him back from his medical trip,” one of the workers told TheCable.

Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, had said staff from 12 departments of State House came to bid Buhari a “warm welcome”.

He then invited the permanent secretary to speak.

Arbi said: “This is the congregation of your children privileged to work in the Villa. We have gathered to welcome you and reassure you of our commitment to integrity, accountability and most importantly fear of God. We pray God to continue strengthen you and give you peace of mind and tranquility to govern.”‎

The bewildered staff ‎could not believe it when they were not allowed to ask any questions or make any comments.

They believed they were lured to meet the president as part of the “sycophancy” of senior officers who want to be in the good books of the president.

“If I had known, I would not have bothered to leave my office,” another worker said.

The staff, who had earlier chanted “Sai Baba” as Buhari emerged from the mosque, even applauded and called him “father” when he noted that they were under the sun sweating profusely.

At the end of the meeting, the staff left dejected.

“You mean we were brought here just to welcome the president who has been back to the country since Sunday?” a worker asked.

Others were seen laughing and clapping sarcastically at the “fraudulent way” the “welcome” meeting was organised.

Expectations unmet: Aso Rock staff meet Buhari

Buhari, meanwhile, told them his government would not go after anybody who does not steal public funds.

He said that his administration’s ongoing war against corruption would be vigorously sustained to rid the country of the debilitating effects of the wanton looting of public funds in past years.

He assured them that he would continue to lead the country with patriotic zeal, integrity, dedication and commitment to improving the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians.

“I have never in my life believed in corruption. If we make any mistake in what we are doing and compromise our integrity, the country will be further dragged back,” he said.

“We’ll not touch anybody that did not touch public funds. If you behave yourself, you will sleep soundly; your children and families will enjoy respect.

“But if you have short-changed the treasury, you will be caught and you’ll have your day in court.”

Buhari thanked the staff for their service to the nation and urged them to remain patriotic and eschew corruption in the discharge of their duties.

“I’m asking you to re-dedicate yourself to your country. As I said thirty years ago we have no other country than Nigeria. We are determined to rehabilitate the country for coming generations,” he said.

“The process of change is not easy but with your dedication, we can deal successfully with the issues that currently confront us.”

    1. who cares about waec cert all the people with degreess & phd that ruled us where did it take us to; I’d take a president with no waec cert that will not loot state resources over a Phd holder

      1. It’s not an issue of qualifications but of integrity and respect for constituted due processes. Learn to draw a line between party affiliation and unalloyed patriotism.

        1. Exactly, we cannot have it both ways. It is not about personal preference but the basic prerequisite as required by the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria. Infact about his self-acclaimed Integrity and fighting corruption.

      2. Fantastic reply! Rather have focussed and sincere leader with even toilet paper for certificate than a so called PhD who is an acclaimed ogogoro master who lost all charge and has landed us in shambles. The whole world except mischief makers like Bee know that Buhari’s certs were seized and burnt by you know who!! Buhari is surely on the right track whether pundits agree or not. As for the “welcome party”, putting aside the special advisers, what exactly were the staffers expecting? Free money and a wine party? They were not told it was a “staff forum” with the President so for sure, it was a gathering to welcome the President! Now nobody can teach those Presidential aides how to do their work! Wait for your time if you disagree with me and do it your own way!! Cheers!!

        1. Well he could request for a certified original from Cambridge or WAEC. That should never be a problem, and until he does that the Ball is in his court.

        2. He has failed in all fronts. He is truly the Dullard of Daura. There is rising insecurity in the land – from Fulani Herdsmen (He is not doing anything or saying anything about them), Boko Haram (Dont mind the lies from Lai – He should send his children in America to stay in Bama for holiday, if he is sure of the place), kidnappings, armed robberies (people now stealing pots of soup). He has no clue on how to drive the economy. Companies are pulling out of Nigeria, there is mass sack. He is a tribal leader, ethnic champion, the Nortehrnization of establishments. Nigeria has never had it so bad. The closest was in 1984, when Buhari was head of state.

      3. Mr. Sean that is not the point. The law says you must have WAEC as a minimum to run for presidency. So it’s about rule of law and not his level of education. In any case the collapse of the ecomony shows you need a learned person in charge. Despite all PMB’s good intentions, his lack of education has destroyed the economy.

  1. A tribalist/ sectionist who sees no good in other tribes and regions, a religious fantastic who does not respect the believes of other tribes apart from his can not be a good leader.

    1. I know tempers are high, because of the economic conditions, but we do not have to loose sight of the good the government is doing. PDP has been in government for 16 years so its only natural that if you want to investigate Corrupt Government officials it will be PDP members. I think when

      1. What has it got to do with having the basic WAEC prerequisite as required by the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria? You cannot clean a dirty floor wearing a dirty shoe.

      2. Yes PDP has been in power for 16years but we should also not lose sight of the fact that APC has also been in power for 16 years too at the state level. They started as AD, ACN, APP, ANPP, CPC and finally APC so as PDP was stealing the nation blind at the Federal and state level for this past 16 years, APC was also busy stealing their states blind at the same period! Don’t forget that two PDP Chairmen who were part of this 16 years of pillaging the economy are currently APC members – One a sitting senator and the other a ministers who’s currently rated the best of PMB’s ministers.

      3. Please where are all the former pdp member that spoilt and loted the country? Are they not all in apc now,I don’t care if the president is a christian or muslim all I want is a good leader that can captain us economically in the wright direction and buhari lacks that period

  2. Who is talking about WAEC with a man that came tops at USAWC(US ARMY WAR COLLEGE) 1980 class? B4 now, he attended the highest military schools in Nigeria, UK, India, ET al & held top-flight positions.I’ve seen his pictures with classmates & teachers. So, hatred can make adults to reason like children?

    1. Sorry, but attending war college does not amount to an academic qualification.Hatred has nothing here to look for.Who is fooling who?

    2. Joe Ukpong, you guys keep missing the point. It’s not about his level of education, at all. The law says you MUST have WAEC as a minimum to run for presidency. The law is not interested in pictures with classmates and teachers. This should matter to Nigerians everywhere who study hard to get 5 credits and one of 2 hurdles in their quest for higher education. They all must rise now and say #‎BuhariShowYourCertificate‬
