Melaye denies plan to leave PDP for APC

Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi west senatorial district, says he has no intention of defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a tweet he shared on Sunday, Melaye described people who leave the PDP for the APC as “fools”.

It was rumoured that he planned to leave the PDP after losing the party’s governorship ticket in Kogi state.

Besides being unable to fulfil his vow to unseat Yahaya Bello, the incumbent governor of the state who is of the APC, it was also rumoured he might join the ruling party to seek a soft-landing in his trial.

But writing via his Twitter handle, the senator said: “Only compound fools and people with a degree in stupidity will leave PDP for APC. APC will be defeated in Kogi state.”

Melaye had polled only 70 votes in the PDP governorship primary election, losing to Musa Wada, brother of former Kogi governor, Idris Wada.

At the end of the election, he had described the exercise as “ridiculous”, saying the outcome is totally unacceptable.

While the controversy is yet to die down, he was appointed director-general of PDP’s governorship campaign in the state; a position he turned it down.

The election tribunal also recently sacked Melaye as a senator and ordered a fresh election.
