The hoodlums were said to have invaded a Christ Apostolic Church branch, located at Gudugbe Alagon of Wasimi in Ewekoro local government area of the state.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, Ogun police public relations officer (PPRO), in a statement on Sunday, said the hoodlums invaded the church on Thursday around 1:30am, armed with dangerous weapons.

According to Oyeyemi, five of the hoodlums were arrested, following a distress call by Obisesan Seye, the pastor of the church.

The police spokesperson gave the names of the suspects as, Abubakar Ibrahim, aged 38; Sulaiman Yusuf, aged 32; Ismail Yusuf, aged 20; Umar Aliu, aged 26 and Yinusa Musa.

“The hoodlums beat some members of the church to a stupor before dispossessing them of their valuables,” he said.

“As if that was not enough, the hoodlums abducted one Mojisola Atolagbe while leaving the church.

“Upon the distress call, policemen attached to Ewekoro division swiftly moved to the scene, combed the forest where the hoodlums escaped to thoroughly and their efforts paid off when five amongst the gang members were apprehended in the bush.”

The PPRO noted that while one of the suspects escaped, one cutlass, two sharp-pointed cudgels and traditional amulets were recovered from those arrested.

He disclosed that Edward Ajogun, Ogun commissioner of police, has directed that the suspects should be transferred to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department.
