MFM ‘battle ready’ for top of the table clash with Plateau United

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) table toppers Plateau United FC and second placed MFM will lock horns on Sunday at the Rwang Pang Stadium, in Jos.

Last season, the Olukoya Boys played 1-1 against the Peace Boys in Jos, while they lost 0-1 at home. MFM have already beaten United this season, winning 2-1 at home in Lagos.

Plateau United currently sit atop the league table with 58 points, three adrift of MFM’s 55 points.

Any loss for Plateau United will see MFM draw level with them on points but the Jos-based side will be hoping to make history by winning the league after 45 years.

Mighty Jets won the maiden edition of the league that was played among the six teams in 1972.

MFM will also be seeking to put their name on the list of Lagos-based league winners.

Commenting on the all-important top of the table clash, MFM spokesperson, Olawale Quadri, told NAN that the match would be a decider for both teams.

“Sunday’s match will be explosive and a decider for both teams. Any team that wins in Jos will definitely be crowned champions, there are no two ways to this,” he said.

“For MFM, we are battle-ready for the game and we are taking it as the game of our lives. We expect fireworks from both teams and it is match everybody is looking up to.

“The match on Sunday is like the final game of the season to determine the 2016/2017 league winners. We are both locked up in a battle of wits in the race.

“It may also be a win-win situation for both clubs towards our aspiration, picking maximum points on Sunday means that we are a step closer to winning the league.”

Quadri said MFM would bank on the support of their fans in Jos for a victory against United.

“We have a good fans base in Jos and we have been mobilising them for support. We want to win the game and we want them to get behind us,” he said.

“Winning the league means a lot to everybody. The management of the club, the coach, players and fans as well.”
