MFM beat Real Bamako to keep CAF Champions League campaign alive

MFM FC booked a place in the next round of the CAF Champions League after a 1-0 win over AS Real Bamako at the Agege Stadium.

Chijioke Akuneto scored the sole goal to help the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side qualify 2-1 on aggregate.

The win has set up a second round meeting with MC Algiers.

Speaking with TheCable after the game, head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, expressed delight at his team’s performance.

“I am very happy to have qualified, the team are very happy to have qualified, the club are very happy to be qualified, so you (journalists) can be very happy to have qualified,” Ilechukwu said.

“We won. That’s good. We prepared this game in every minute detail and gave it our best.

“Finishing the job in Agege was very important, there are very good teams in the competition.

“We will try everything when we face MC Algiers in the next round, there is time to prepare.”
