Mike Brown, D’Tigers head coach, has been named 2022/23 NBA coach of the year.
According to a statement issued by the NBA on Thursday, Brown was awarded the recognition following his feats with Sacramento Kings during the season.
The 53-year-old became the first coach in the history of the NBA to win the award based on unanimous decision.
“Mike Brown is the first unanimous winner of the NBA Coach of the Year Award, which has been presented annually since the 1962-63 season,” the statement reads.

Brown led the Kings to their first playoff berth since 2006, winning 48 games en route to the playoffs.

He was hired by the Kings in 2022 after leading D’Tigers of Nigeria to the Tokyo Olympics.
The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) had remained mute on its relationship with the American since Brown became the Sacremento’s head coach.
He was missing from the dugout throughout D’Tigers’ failed quest to qualify for the 2023 FIBA Men’s World Cup.

However, in a tweet posted on Monday, NBBF declared that Brown “remains the indefatigable coach of the Nigerian National team”.
“He has consistently done the impossible. No one gave him a chance in the beginning of this season Currently ranked the best coach in the NBA this season,” the tweet reads.
“He remains the indefatigable coach of the Nigerian National team.”
