Mikel, Iwobi arrive Eagles camp

Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi and Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi have arrived the team’s camp ahead of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against the Pharaohs of Egypt.

Iwobi had scored a goal for Arsenal in the team’s 2-0 win at Everton on Saturday.

The encounter with Egypt is scheduled to take place in Kaduna on March 25, and to be followed by another in Alexandria Egypt, on March 29.

Toyin Ibitoye, Super Eagles media officer, told NAN that Obi arrived on Monday morning, bringing the number of foreign players in camp to four.

The other players are Aminu Umar and Shehu Abdullahi.

Ibitoye said goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa and forward Oghenekaro Etebo were the only home-based players in camp out of the six home-based players left in Coach Samson Siasia’s list.

“Chibuzor Okonkwo, Matthew Etim, Ifeanyi Matthew and Kalu Orji are yet to arrive after playing for their clubs in Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matches,” he said.

“Other foreign-based and home-based players are on their way.”

He explained that full training in preparation for the encounter would commence on Tuesday at the National Stadium, Abuja.

“There is no training today (Monday) because it’s arrival day; intensive training will commence on Tuesday,” he said.
