John Obi Mikel, Super Eagles captain, has joined English Championship side, Middlesbrough, until the end of the season.
The club on Thursday announced the signing of the 31-year-old former Chelsea midfielder.
Mikel became a free agent in November 2018 after a two-year stint with Chinese Super League side, Tianjin Teda.
Middlesbrough coach, Tony Pulis, said Mikel is a quality player. “I’m pleased to get him in. He is a man with a lot of experience and quality,” Pulis said.

“He has a winning mentality and he wants to be here be a part of what we are looking to achieve.”
Mikel was linked to several clubs in Europe including Roma and Wolfsburg before he chose to settle with Boro. Crystal Palace was another club linked with the Nigerian star.
Mikel won the English Premier League, Uefa Champions League, FA Cup, and Europa League titles with Chelsea during his 11-year stay with the London club.

Middlesbrough are currently fifth in the Championship.
Mikel is the club’s second signing of the transfer window after Rajiv van La Parra arrived on loan from Huddersfield
