Mikel, Onuachu, Ejaria… TheCable’s team of the week

Many Nigerian players were in action for their respective clubs last weekend.

The top performers made TheCable’s team of the week.

Maduka Okoye – Sparta Rotterdam

PSV Eindhoven could only manage to score a goal at home to Sparta Rotterdam at the weekend but the result could have been worse if Maduka Okoye hadn’t been on top of his game at the goalpost.

Brian Idowu – Khimki

Brian Idowu has played an important role in Khimki’s unbeaten streak in the last three games. He was very strong in the air and reliable at the back for Khimki against Krasnodar. He earns his place at right-back.

Semi Ajayi – West Bromwich Albion

Ajayi was characteristically strong for the Baggies. He was simply flawless at the back against Sheffield United.

Calvin Ughelumba – Rangers

Another key factor in Rangers’ defensive strength has been the emergence of Calvin Ughelumba. Against Falkirk, he defended well and often showed his confidence on the ball and his passing ability by starting his side’s forward movement from the back.

Zaidu Sanusi – FC Porto

Zaidu Sanusi was one of the few bright spots in Porto’s victory over Santa Clara. He was imperious on the left and heavily involved in all phases of the game.

John Obi Mikel – Stoke City

Another appearance in the team of the week, thanks to a brilliant showing for Stoke City. Mikel seems to be a totally different player since joining the Potters. It was a flawless shift that included some important tackles to protect his defence at Millwall.

Alhassan Yusuf – IFK Göteborg

Alhassan Yusuf is one of the most impressive midfielders currently playing in Sweden. His energetic style of play in the centre of the park was in full display during last weekend’s match.

Ovie Ejaria – Reading

It was an exhilarating performance from Ejaria at the weekend. He orchestrated Reading attacks perfectly and was on target.

Onoriode Odah – Hapoel Hadera

Former Rangers striker split the Bnei Sakhnin backline with his positional play. He netted three goals as his side ran riot.

Victor Mbaoma – Enyimba

Enyimba striker Victor Mbaoma had a great game in the match against Rahimo. the talented attacker scored a sweet header that turned out to be the match-winner.

Paul Onuachu – Genk

Onuachu scored two against Cercle Brugge. It was his 12th goal of the season in the Belgian Division A season.
