The Nigerian military says it will “do everything” to emerge victorious from the ongoing gun battle with Boko Haram fighters who are currently on a mission to take over Bama, Borno state.
Militants stormed Bama, some 60km away the capital city of Maiduguri, with the intention of capturing it like Gwoza, which they declared an Islamic caliphate on August 24 – a claim the military branded as empty.
On Monday, the militants reportedly announced their arrival with heavy gunfire, prompting residents to flee for safety. However, soldiers repelled the attack and there has been prolonged exchange of gunfire.
Confirming the gun duel to TheCable, director of defence information, Maj-Gen. Chris Olukolade, expressed optimism that Boko Haram would be defeated from Bama.
