Mimiko: APC can’t hold on to Lagos much longer

Governor of Ondo state, Olusegun Mimiko, says the All Progressives Congress (APC) will find it difficult to hold to Lagos state in the next general election.

Mimiko, who recently left the Labour Party (LP) for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), told correspondents at the presidential villa in Abuja on Tuesday that his new party was making inroads into the south-west.

“All indications were pointing to the fact that the PDP is already making inroads into the south-west again. It will be difficult for the APC to hold on to Lagos state,” the medical doctor said.

Lagos state has always voted for the party Bola Tinubu belongs to since 1999, even when other south-west states fell to the PDP in 2003.

Meanwhile, governor of Benue state, Gabriel Suswam, has denounced claims that two PDP governors were on their way to APC.

His Kano counterpart, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, had made the claim on Monday.

Suswam said Kwankwaso’s statement only confirmed that APC chiefs were already aware of the fact that they would not win any election without support from the PDP.

He said PDP would beat the APC roundly during the general election, maintaining that any group that was sure of itself would not be seeking help from enemies’ camp.

‎He said: “It looks like the APC people do not have confidence in themselves, that on their own they can make progress. So they keep speculating that PDP members are going to join them.

“That shows clearly that APC is not a party that Nigerians can go to. If I am sure of myself, I won’t be asking for additional troops from the enemy camp to come.

“They are not sure, they know they will not win until the PDP members join them even now with the strength they have. Kwankwaso was in PDP, he had added value, so to say. They now discovered lately that in spite of that, they can’t make any progress.

“They are now speculating and hoping against hope. No PDP governor will go to APC. Rather, we are having people who started PDP who are very strong like the Iroko (Mimiko) coming back to join the family that they left.

“No governor is leaving PDP. We are going to defeat them roundly. They are scared. Nobody is going to join them from the PDP, not even a counsellor.”

  1. Mimiko is only seeking attention! And as for Suswam, he should wait until the next general elections are conducted; I am sure, he is going to beg to join the APC…

  2. Whichever way you want to look at it, Nigeria will not thrive under a “one political state position”. It’s so disappointing that a learned doctor like Mimiko would not understand this to make such an unguarded statement. Really disappointed. Let’s have at least two to three political parties to checkmate themselves, it’s only then that we can achieve the best politically.

  3. Mimiko is merely seeking for a refuge from EFCC harassment after leaving office. All his foot soldiers he left in the lurch are all complaining in all the LGAs. That is what needs his attention. He is merely hiding behind his shadows. Lagos residents knows better than to handle their lives in the hands of bandits and looters. Tufiakwa!
